Chapter 9

“What do you mean, the antenna is not yet complete?” Mustapha Shahkhia said menacingly into the hotel phone. “The first shipment of drones is already on its way there.”

The man on the other end of the call offered a thousand pardons. The Libyan could sense the fear in the man’s voice and that was good. Even though the lackey was thousands of kilometers away in Libya, the man knew Shahkhia’s influence could easily reach out and have him killed.

“It is almost completed, sir,” the man continued. “And I assure you we already have people waiting at the rendezvous place to meet the shipment and transport it immediately to our headquarters.”

“You had better. If all is not as it should be upon my return, you will scream for mercy and welcome death’s embrace.” He slammed the phone into the cradle.

Shahkhia mentally assessed the situation, considering all the contingencies as any smart military commander would do. The shipment of thirty-five Pegasus drones should be arriving in Egypt in about fifteen hours under the guise of medical supplies. From there his emissaries would intercept the shipment and take it to the desert base in Libya where the assembly would begin. That should take no longer than thirty-six hours.

All that remained would be the final completion of the antenna to convey the broadcast of the target coordinates to the computerized guidance systems. He frowned at the thought he would still need the Chinese technicians to program the initial strikes and arm the two separate portions of the Sleeping Dragons. But after that they would be expendable.

He thought of the NATO airpower and took into account again his need for more insurance against them after his first strike decimated the capital and the NTC puppets. The Americans would respond quickly, no doubt, after their usual bellicose rumbling in front of their television cameras, and most probably launch planes from one of their carriers that could destroy his forces in the blink of an eye. If and when they could find him, that was. As long as they could keep on the move after their first strike, with his army and the tribes in rebellion, it would buy him time. The Americans would eventually lose their will. He need only prevent their initial retaliation and he knew how to assure that.

He looked over at Sultan who sat patiently watching him. “Has the television been replaced?”

The huge man nodded and handed him the remote. Shahkhia took it and pressed the power button. The screen came to life and he shuffled through the menu until he found a worldwide cable news station.

“I’m looking for news about the whore of the West,” he said. “She must be on her way to our country by now.”

“Along with the other United Nations lackeys,” Sultan said.

“Check with our sources inside the capital,” Shahkhia said, continuing to flip through the channels. “Find out when they’ll arrive and in which hotel they’ll be staying. I want our capture of them to be as precise as slicing the throat of a lamb.
